Ulcerative Colitis
Ulcerative colitis is the inflammation of the bowels. Due to this inflammation, it may also cause ulcers in the lining of the rectum or the lower part of the colon. The same inflammation also causes the colon to empty many times a day causing diarrhea.
It can happen at any age but is more frequent between the ages of 15 and 30. It is also more seen amongst the white population.
The more common symptoms are blood in the stools and abdominal pain, but it can also cause fatigue, weight loss, anemia, loss of appetite, skin lesions, joint pains and lack of growth in children. It is not really known what causes it, but certain foods and stress will bring it on. The treatments for advanced colitis are mainly cortisone based, and do not cure the problem but are there more to manage the problem. The side effect of these medicines are detrimental, and would rather be avoided.
Sometimes the colitis gets so bad that hospitalization is required and ultimately the removal of the colon or the rectum. When this operation is performed a pouch needs to be worn permanently to collect the waste. Another possible problem with untreated colitis is the risk of cancer.
It is therefore imperative to get yourself diagnosed as soon as possible if your are suffering from the above symptoms, to try avoiding colitis from deteriorating.
This book "Great Taste No Pain" has some very good permanent treatments that would help an early stage of colitis.
